Family Night Out

Since Chase has been able to eat on his own, we have only taken him to a restaurant if we were with family. We rarely go to restaurants. However, we had a gift card to Cracker Barrel and decided to go as a family. Chase might just be super messy and it's hard to keep him from making a royal mess. It was nice to go out as a family (especially not having to cook or clean up) and Chase was pretty good.

This night was also significant because I had just gotten my new and very first smart phone! So fun!! It was so fun to play with the GPS on the way their and the camera.

1st Appointment in Provo

On Nov. 13, we took Chase to a hand specialist in Provo. At the appointment, they took of the cast with a loud and mean looking machine. Chase was not phased and didn't even cry, what a stud huh?. Then they xrayed his hand. I have to say, it was very hard for me to see his finger. He still had the pin in so he couldn't bend his finger which seemed to upset him. We think it scared him more than hurt him. Either way, it brought on all the scary horrible feelings again for me and I cried a few times. They told us that his hand was healing well and they put a new cast back on, he chose green this time (the first one was blue). We always kept a sock on it to keep it clean and dry. They also told us glorious news, as long as he wasn't in pain, he could put pressure on it!! Wonderful, wonderful news!!

That was his first lollipop and it worked as a great distraction as they put the new cast back on.
The yellow ball was the end of the pin.

The first ten days with the cast...

Our instructions from the doctor were that he was not allowed to put any weight on the cast at all. My initial thought was, if that is what his finger needs to heal then we will do it, however with as active as a child as Chase is, this doctor has no idea what this means. The first ten days were challenging to say the least. They got easier when a friend from church brought over a walker, that was my only relief. And thankfully Chase loved it, he zoomed around the downstairs and was quite happy. Bathing was also a pain, we went back to bathing in the sink which I don't love. We covered his cast with a plastic bag and made them short. The worst part was trying to wash his hair. I'm glad those days are over. Through it all, Chase was such a good sport. As you can see from the pictures, he remained a happy baby even though he got frustrated every now and again.

Chase's Accident 11.1.12

Chase and I planned on traveling to visit my family in Florida to meet my new niece Gracie, however our plans were changed in flight when Chase's finger was badly hurt on the airplane. Because we have yet to settle everything with the airline and insurance agencies, I'm not going to write about this now. I only have two pictures from this whole ordeal (accept for the graphic ones from the doctor). I'll close by saying Chase was a little warrior throughout the whole thing and although it was not fun to go through, Heavenly
Father sent us many tender mercies to sustain both Chase and I throughout.
Upon leaving the hospital after surgery.
My dear friend Christine, who was an angel for me, dropping us off at the airport to go back to Utah.

First Haircut and more...

We gave Chase his first haircut on Oct. 29, the day he lost his curls.
The first pictures are momentos of his baby curls. Seriously so cute.
As new parents we didn't really know what were doing when trying to cut a very busy baby's hair. So we put him in the tub, because he's happy there. Bad idea. Way too much much mobility. We ended up taking him out and I held him while Jon cut his hair. Also to know, you have to work quickly because baby's have a very short attention span. We didn't think about that either. Needless to say, his first haircut went well under the circumstances and we will be more prepared for the second one.

We actually took quite a few walks in the canyon as a family and just me and Chase during the fall. Chase enjoyed it and so did we. I went up there on a few Sunday afternoons and walked for a while, Chase would always fall asleep. His cheeks got rosey because it was crisp but he was all nice and bundled so he stayed warm.

Happy Halloween!

We carved pumpkins with Nate and Kristen again this year. However we have added two babies to the group since doing it last year. Somehow the dads both finished theirs before the moms even started. I think we will have to change that up a little before next Halloween.

Halloween was so much more fun this year with someone to dress up. Jon took the night off of our ward Halloween party and it was super fun dressing up as a family. Chase actually loved putting the pumpkin hat on but got a little shy once we got to the party. There were lots of people there that I'm sure looked quite strange to him.

It's time to start blogging again...

So the last time I blogged was just a few days before Chase's accident in the airplane and it seems that life just threw me for a little loop. I've missed blogging and am going to start doing it again. It seems like it's the only consistent way I document our family's life. Sorry for the onslaught of posts from the pasts, I will get up to speed soon.
